4th of July, 1955…

I was sorting my postcards to find ones that I hadn’t transcribed this and this one emerged from the pile. I had a hard time transcribing some of this one but I really wanted to post it because it was sent 70 years ago today. What are the odds?!

This is what I was able to make out.

It is terrifically hot out here in Minn. Hotter than on the desert. I expect to be home next Fri night. Well go have a dog, eggs & some milk & [something] for me. Also a can of fruit juice. I’ll [something] when I get back.

This postcard was written to Mrs. Charles Martell. The name might be familiar because I posted another card that was sent to her. They were both sent in July of 1955. At first glance, it looked like the postcards were signed by different people, but upon closer inspection, they have the same handwriting.

The postcard that was sent on 7/2/1955 was sent from Pierre, South Dakota and features a lake in the Black Hills. The second postcard was sent on 7/4/1955 showing the head of Abraham Lincoln at Mount Rushmore, also in the Black Hills of South Dakota, but it was sent from River Falls, Wisconsin and mentions how hot it is in Minnesota. They were moving through the Midwest pretty fast!

Despite living in North Dakota for the first 11 years of my life, I never made the trip to see Mount Rushmore. Another bucket list item.
