Simply put, St Mary Magdalene church in Taunton has been around for quite some time and a lot of work has been done on it to keep it as authentic as possible while making it accessible to the public and tourists. It was completed in 1508 in Early Tudor Perpendicular Gothic style.
Fun fact: Gothic style, in general, is my favorite type of architecture.
It is known for its tall tower, as seen in the postcard and picture, that stands 158ft tall (ajuniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiik – this is my cat, Luna’s contribution to the post), and had 15 bells. The tower was completed in the 15th and 16th centuries and a replica was built in 1858. “On completion of the re-build, the donkey who had hauled all the stone up the tower from whence to survey his handiwork!”

I was able to track down Hermine Allen, Allen likely being her maiden name. According to the 1911 England Census for Devonport, England, Hermine was about 23 years old when it was taken, single, and working as a milliner. This means that she would have been about 18 when the postcard was sent to her.
I did have to look milliner up – a person who makes or sells women’s hats.

I could not find any other information on Hermine other than the 1911 census. Newspapers and Ancestry led me to a dead end and she could be one of a handful of Hermine Allen’s.
If anyone can figure out the words I’m missing in the last sentence, please comment! I will update it and give you credit. 🙂
