Hotel Geneve

To: Mr. George Caley; Columbia, PA

We are in Oregon tonight. Spent 1st night in a cute little cabi in Mt. Rainier. The towns and cities seem hot and crowded after the cool mountains.

My Mexican Address is: Hotel Geneve, Londres St., Mexico City, Mexico

There are several things that stuck out to me in this postcard. The first was how beautiful the handwriting is, and it looks an awfully lot like mine (lol). Almost all of the postcards I got in this package are written in cursive and with pencil, so there are many that are too faded to make out. I’m always thankful when I pull a random card out of the bag and it’s written in ink.

The postcard mentions the names of some of the foliage in the area. White Heather, Blue Lupin, Indian Paint Brush, Purple Aster, and Giant Helibore. I had to look most of them up. Blue Lupin looks like a cross between a hyacinth and Alaskan fireweed. It’s beautiful.

I was also really curious about Hotel Geneve in Mexico City which has been around since 1907 and was happy to see that the hotel is still around.

The website blog states that “By the end of the thirties, the professionalism of Geneve Hotel reached such international prestige that a US newspaper published: A confirmed reservation at the Geneve Hotel is like having a deposit of a thousand dollars.” Naturally after reading that I scurried over to newspapers.com to see if I could find this article.

Unfortunately, I did not find the article but I did find the clip below from the Evening Star on Sunday, September 7th, 1941

Bucket list item? No, probably not.
