..and here’s to you, Mr. Robinson

To a probable Mr./Mrs. W.W. Robinson in New York from a Mrs. “R”. I was unable to identify the sender but it was sent from Atlanta, Georgia. The front of the postcard shows the State Capitol building. It hasn’t changed much.

The hand writing was a little difficult to read and I spent quite a bit of time on it.

Possible message: 3/26/1955 — Have been here since Feb. 12th. This is a beautiful city of eight hundred thousand inhabitants. Still do not use gloves. Well that’s [unknown]. Sincerely, Mrs R It took me several days to try to decode what the postcard was trying to say.

That’s the best I could do.

I was able to find Mr. and Mrs. Winfield Washburn Robinson on ancestry.com. In the early 1900s, Mr. Washburn was one of the first men assigned to the New York State Police. I tracked Mr. Robinson down by entering his name, location, and a date range into both newspapers.com and ancestry.com. Below is a clip of the 1940 census which lists him as the Captain of the NY State Police.

Now please take a few minutes and head over to YouTube or whatever your preferred streaming service is and listen to Mrs. Robinson by Simon and Garfunkel. You’re welcome.
