Famous Ancestor
I guess this one is kind of up for interpretation and what your definition of “famous” is. I don’t think I have any famous ancestors in my family tree. At least none that I can find. Instead, I looked at a tree I’ve been working on for my co-worker.
Her husband’s family is full of crazy stories and very interesting people. One man attempted to “sell” his children. Another was an Abraham Lincoln assassination co-conspirator. Finally, we have David Lee. Maulsby.

Kind of handsome, isn’t he? I’m not sure why he ended up being so interesting to me, but I found that he graduated from Tufts University in 1887, graduated with his Master’s degree from Harvard in 1898, and then a PhD degree from Chicago in 1909. It’s so sad to think that this brilliant man then passed away in 1910, unable to utilize all the education that he worked so hard to get. He passed away at age 51 due to complications of diabetes, I believe.

This man is not part of my family tree, but I always feel honored to be able to work on someone else’s tree and share with them a very interesting piece in their family history that they can be proud of.

I think my favorite part of researching David Maulsby was that I was able to track down a book that he had written and buy it to give to my co-worker and her husband as a gift.

David Lee Maulsby may not be a household name, but to me, he is famous.
